I GIVE YOU THIS PAGE TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO YOU AS TO WHAT MAKES UP A AXLE AND HUB ASSEMBLY. THE PHOTO SHOW A ASSEMBLY WITH BRAKES, PART # 20. THE SMALL BOAT TRAILERS, JET SKI AND UTILITY UNDER 2000 LBS. IN MOST CASES DO NOT HAVE BRAKES. THE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER WHEN REPACKING YOUR BEARINGS IS THERE ARE 2 BEARINGS, A INNER AND A OUTER, PART NUMBER 2 AND 5 ARE CALLED THE CONE AND 3, 4, ARE THE CUP. WHEN REPACKING THE BEARINGS THE GREASE APPLICATION AREA IS TO PRESS AS MUCH GREASE INTO THE CONE ASSEMBLY AS POSSIBLE AND APPLY TO THE SURFACE OF THE CUP. THE CUP WILL REMAIN IN THE HUB PART # 24 OR 25 IF WITH BRAKES. INSPECT THE CONES FOR RUST OR PITS. IN SOME POORLY MAINTAINED ASSEMBLIES THE CONE WILL BE BROKEN AND MUST BE REPLACED. IF IN QUESTION REPLACE THEM WITH NEW. RUN YOUR FINGER OVER THE CUP SURFACE AND FEEL FOR A RIDGE OR HEAVY  RUST PITS. IF ANY RIDGE OR HEAVY PITTING IS DETECTED THEY MUST BE REPLACED. BEST THING TO DO IF THE CONE HAS A RIDGE IS TO CALL A AUTO PARTS STORE AND FIND OUT IF THEY PROVIDE A SERVICE OF REPLACING THE CUPS. DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ARE A EXPERIENCED IN SUCH WORK. DO NOT DO THIS AT A NORMAL SERVICE STATION AS I HAVE FOUND THAT MOST SERVICE STATION DO NOT EVEN KNOW THE ASSEMBLY HAS 2 BEARINGS. I MOST CASES WHEN I STOP TO HELP PEOPLE WITH A DISABLED TRAILERS ON THE HIGHWAY, THEY SAY,  "I CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT WE JUST HAD THEM REPACKED YESTERDAY AT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD GAS STATION BEFORE WE LEFT ON OUR TRIP ."  THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THEY ONLY REPACKED 1 OF THE BEARING AND OR THE GREASE WAS DISSIMILAR AND THIS IN SOME CASES WHEN 2 DIFFERENT BRANDS OF GREASE COMBINE THEY WILL MIX AND TURN TO A LIQUID AND COMPLETELY QUIT PROVIDING ANY LUBRICATION AND THE AXLE ASSEMBLY WILL THEN COMPLETELY LOCK UP. IT IS BEST TO ALWAYS REPLACE THE SEAL PART # 1.  THE 1" SEAL IS HARD TO TELL FROM THE NEXT LARGER SIZE AND THE METRIC VERSION. MAKE SURE THAT THE SEAL NUMBER CORRESPONDS WITH THE NUMBER THAT GOES WITH YOUR HUB AND AXLE ASSEMBLY. NEVER ACCEPT A SEAL THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE PART NUMBER ON IT OR IS BOXED, AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN ACCIDENTALLY PLACED IN A WRONG PARTS BIN AND YOU WILL JUST HAVE MORE PROBLEMS.    hubs equipped with the Sure Lube System must be a "Transcom" Brand of grease seal. These seals can be purchased direct from the factory. These seals should not be cross-referenced over to another brand of seal if they are being used in the Sure Lube System.

BEARING GREASE  Special water-insoluble formula GREASE THAT'S ideal for marine applications. Provides excellent corrosion protection against severe operating conditions caused by salt water, salt air and atmospheric chemicals. Use on wheel bearings, and to protect swivel hinges, pins, winches and anchor chain reels from corrosion.

MOLLY D FORTIFIED GREASE IS A VERY GOOD GREASE ALSO AND I USED IT IN DELIVERY TRAILER HUBS FROM 1995 TO 2004 AND NEVER RE PACKED THE BEARINGS. I WOULD  JUST WOULD GIVE THEM A PUMP EVERY MONTH OR SO AND THEY REMAINED PERFECT OVER A  9 YEAR PERIOD.
I CURRENTLY USE, AND I THINK PRIMROSE OIL MAKES PROBABLY THE BEST GREASE AVAILABLE AT TWICE THE PRICE. WHY IS IT THE BEST? MOLY D IS WHY

NEVER USE A STORE BOUGHT GREASE THAT SAYS FOR GENERAL PURPOSE OR  MULIT PURPOSE IN MOST CASES IT IS JUST SOME THING THAT WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. REMEMBER IF REPACKING YOUR BEARING MAKE SURE THAT YOU CLEAN ALL THE OLD GREASE OUT OF THE HUB AND BEARINGS AND ALWAYS IF YOU USE BEARING LUBBERS  ALWAYS USE THE SAME GREASE TO KEEP THEM FULL. TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE IF YOU PLAN TO PUT YOUR TRAILER IN STORAGE FOR THE WINTER REMOVE THE HUBS ASSEMBLY AND CHECK IT FOR WATER THAT MAY HAVE ENTERED THE HUB. REPACK IF GREASE IS DISCOLORED OR MILKY COLORED AS THE BEARINGS WILL RUST IF NOT REPACKED AND THEN THE YOU WILL HAVE THE EXPENSE OF REPLACING THE CONES AND POSSIBLE ALSO THE CUPS NEXT SPRING SO PERFORM THE MAINTENANCE AND IT WILL MEAN LONG LIFE AND NO BREAKDOWNS ON THE HIGHWAY TO SPOIL YOUR TRIP.
